[Diarmuid impresses him to hold off Ea for so long, and with just one arm and one weapon at his disposal. This was the man of the twin lances, the great bird who wounded Saber and would've won if not for the twisted circumstances of their own war. He must exercise care. He must show him the respect he's due.

With a boisterous finish of ELISH, Ea fires off a wave of wickedly powerful energy. It now becomes clear why Gilgamesh led them so far out: this would've decimated his poor training ground and taken down half of Caer Glaem along with it. The waves whirls on and on and on for miles, until it crashes clean into a mountain peak and cleaves off a good chunk of its face.

That would've been Diarmuid. So too does his promise to keep him alive become clearer.
