The Soaring Hunter's Quest Board (Currently Closed)

Diarmuid Ua Duibhne has been given many titles since he arrived in the Drabwurld: Commander of the Red Hand, Fae Knight, Shield of the Cothromach, Champion of Redgate. The Soaring Hunter is just the most recent of those titles. What all of those titles have in common, though, is that they were given because of his actions helping others--no matter if they are shardbearers or native, Seelie or Unseelie. He has fought and bled to protect all of them and this land that is slowly starting to become of a home to him than the one he was summoned back into for the War.
As he is invested in so many things, the quests that Diarmuid can give are varied. Want to help non-shardbearers with your skills and keep animosities between those with shards and those without low? Want to go out and make peace between warring groups? Want to gather information or do research? Quests just like those and more can be found here!

After the Dullahan attack at the Citadel and the Unseelie attack against those holding Mair, two organizations that Diarmuid is a part of could both use some new fighters to build them back up: the Seelie Army and the Red Hand. Pick one of the groups and write 1,500 words recruiting new members to the cause. This may be done as a drabble or with others. Interaction with other PCs is not required.
REWARD: Shard Training with Diarmuid. If your character does not know how to activate their shard, Diarmuid will work with them to do so. If they do know how to activate their shard, he will work to hone and strengthen their techniques. Those who have worked several months with their shard can be taught a way to use it to help increase their character's luck.
Taken by: 1.)
The Dullahan and Unseelie attack has left the White Citadel not doing so well. It has also left the people who live and work there looking for more ways to protect themselves against future attacks. Write 1,500 words alone or with other PCs either helping to repair the damage or gathering gold to be used by the people there to make charms and other protections for the Citadel.
REWARD: Diarmuid will pay to have a weapon or item of the character's enchanted with spells of protection for the person carrying it.
Thanks to Leo Valdez the Drabwurld has a new god of fire, but said god is just a baby god and needs the support of followers to get strong enough to rekindle fire magic throughout the world--not to mention survive the rumored upcoming GodsWar. Write 1,500 words alone or with other PCs either building shrines to the new baby god, making offerings to the new god, or spreading word about the new god. Just, please don't set fire to anything important or yourself while you are doing it.
REWARD: A carved wooden charm that says "Devote of Kaio" and has an ashy paw print painted on it. The charm has a minor good luck spell cast on it.
Special Note: Don't worry if your character doesn't know about the new fire god yet. Diarmuid will fill you in if you wish to take the quest!
While others might find them scary or even just plain ugly, Diarmuid is very fond of his bandersnatches and takes them all over with him when he can. The problem is...both of them love honey as much as he does! Unfortunately, they also have a lot less of an issue with taking without asking than he does. Write 1,500 words alone or with someone else gathering and returning honey to those it has been taken from. (Feel free to make up NPCs of your own for this!)
REWARD: 2 bottles of fine honey mead (or your character's choice of drink), money to cover any injuries gotten while procuring the honey, and Diarmuid's undying gratitude.
Quest; Available: 1CLAIMED:
Long ago in a Drabwurld much like this one, a young knight found a large mysterious egg. Curious as to what would hatch from it, said knight took very good care of the egg until it hatched into a strange green bird. The only one of its kind that he knows of, Aengus, as the bird came to be called, soon became lonely and the knight realized he needed to find his pet a... Ah, screw it. Aengus, Diarmuid's green chocobo, is horny and would like to find a mate. Unfortunately, Diarmuid doesn't know of anyone who has a female chocobo on the Seelie side. Write 1,500 words alone or with another as you quest to find the chocobo of Aengus' dreams.
REWARD: To the brave questers go the spoils! The person who brings back a mate for Aengus will be promised their choice of the first clutch of eggs laid. Chocobos have many colors and magical abilities tied to those colors. The parents' colors don't necessarily end up being the colors of the chicks either, though some colors are much rarer than others. Diarmuid will also train the person on how to properly ride a chocobo. It's a taaaad different than riding a horse!

Slots: 1Taken By:Saving Leathann is going to require a monumental effort. Fortunately, there is more time to prepare than there was for saving Mt Verla. Every crazy rescue plan has to start with the basics, though. In this case, that is finding out what exactly the island of Leathann is made of material-wise. The character who takes this quest will be given information on what their character will discover and then will need to write 1,500 words telling how their character found that information. This can be done alone or with others. Please include in the report a suggestion about how much of the island the character thinks is reasonable to try and save.
REWARD: Diarmuid will pay to have a weapon or item of the character's enchanted with spells of protection for the person carrying it. In addition, they will be given a small bottle of sand which has a spell on it that prevents a person from drowning as long as it is carried with them.
Slots: 1Taken by:There is a place for everything and everything has its place. Since whatever lifting, shifting, etc that is done to save Leathann will likely have to have points for reinforcement throughout the area, an updated and thorough map of the island is needed. Write 3,000 words of your character--alone or with others--mapping out the geography of the island. Spend a good amount of time focusing on the city itself since it is one of the more prominent features of the island. For information on Leathann's current state, see here and here. Don't forget to check in on the Locations page as well. Finally, if you would like more information on details, please contact the quest giver and they will get in contact with the mods!
REWARD: If you character does not know how to activate their shard, Diarmuid will be more than happy to teach them how. If they do know and have several months of practice under their belt, he will teach them some shard-based luck magic.

Slots: 1Taken by:Once they have collected as much information about the island as they can, it is time to figure out how to move it. After all, it is not like they are going to have enough time to figure out how to stop the Void itself before it consumes the island. Move island, then talk about how to stop the Void. But who could take on such a crazy task? One option is the Sisterhood, but the Sisterhood does not think much of shardbearers at the moment. Fortunately, there is one who might be able to help, their Voice, Flora. Talk to Flora and/or her dryad children and convince them to help you gain audience with the dryads of the Sisterhood. Write 3,000 words preparing to and then speaking with Flora to persuade her to help.
Special Note: If you are successful in convincing Flora and/or her dryad children to help, this quest will chain into another 2 ★ Quest next month where you will be able to speak to the Sisterhood and request their help. If you do not wish to do two quests in a row, please speak to the quest giver so we can work something out to make sure it makes sense for whoever takes part two of this quest to do it.
REWARD: An audience with the dryads of the Sisterhood to argue Leathann's case and Diarmuid will pay to commission the quester a weapon or a set of armor.
When they were trying to save Mt Verla, many who knew earth magic very quickly tried to teach others so that they might move the mountain in one piece. That, predictably, failed because they just did not have enough time to practice the magic itself, let alone practice working together. Write 1,500 words--either alone or with others--researching and gathering as much information about earth magic and earthbending as possible. As part of the research, talk to at least three PCs who would be willing to become teachers of this kind of magic. (The conversations can be handwaved, but they should be mentioned in the quest log.) The teachers can be either Seelie or Unseelie as Diarmuid has no problem with either court.
REWARD: A crystal imbued with a shielding spell. The spell will adsorb the first hit the character takes in battle and then will need to recharge for two weeks before it can be used again. The quester will also be offered a month of free shard training, weapons training, or fighting training from Diarmuid.

Now that they know what the island of Leathann is made of and how much can realistically be saved, they need to find out roughly how much the mass of the island, its buildings, and it people is. Time to go to the City Hall and see what information can be found on this. (Please contact the quest giver for information on how much of the island will be saved and then the mods for the information that will be found at City Hall.) Write 1,500 words alone or with others discovering the information at City Hall and doing a calculation of how much will need to be lifted. Include an estimate of how many people should be allowed on the island with each person's weight being figured at roughly 200 pounds.
REWARD: As a reward, the quest taker will be given 50 gold pieces and a ring enchanted with a protection spell.
Originally the plan was to get all the information that could be found on cloud whales and then go hunting them. However, plans changed when it was found out that cloud whales can be befriended! Go out and make friends with a cloud whale and see what information can be found by watching them more closely. Maybe they can help lift the island in a way that doesn't involve their deaths? Pay special attention to the bones at the Cloud Whale Graveyard and thinking on alternatives to killing them. Write 3,000 words alone or with others befriending and more closely studying the cloud whales. (Please PM the quest giver for what information the study will reveal. Any alternative routes thought up by the character will be run passed the mods to see if they are possible!)
REWARD: Lucky you! Diarmuid's chocobos have just produced a nest and your character will be given a yellow chick to use as a mount! Or, at least it will be a mount once it hatches and grows up a little bit... If your character is not interested in a chocobo, a reward of 100 gold pieces and a ring enchanted to allow the wearer to levitate for 20 minutes once a day will be offered.
Now that an audience with the Sisterhood has been granted, it is time to go to the audience and convince them to help the people of Leathann save their island. Set up a log for the audience and put your best negotiating foot forward! This log will be NPCed. Write 3,000 words (including the audience with the Sisterhood) preparing and convincing the Sisterhood to help out. Please note that if this quest is taken, it will require talking to Steve Rogers and/or going to the audience with him as he is the one who will be speaking with the Sisterhood in order to earn the right to the audience.

Or, at least it will be a mount once it hatches and grows up a little bit... Just as it says on the label! Have a quest in mind? Let me know and we can set something up! Quests must be approved by the mods before they are official.
REWARD: To be determined once the quest is finalized.
