MAJOR EVENTS

MASTER/SERVANT BOND CREATED W/ALYOSHA. [ ]

SETS UP HIS PERSONAL TRAINING GROUND AT CAER GLAEM. [ ]

CSI: DAONNA. [ ]

BECOMES A CAPTAIN IN THE RED HAND. [ ]

MAJOR CHANGES

POST BATTLE:

  • His right arm is missing at the shoulder.
  • There are several 'bleed over' effects from his Master/Servant bond with Alyosha because various factors. These include:
    • When his emotions are high (especially when he is angry) he will grow fangs and the pupils of his eyes will slit like a snake's eyes.
    • He will crave blood whenever his energy levels are low or whenever Alyosha is strongly craving it herself. This is partly because of her being a vampire, but also because on his world, blood is one of the things that carries magical energy and so he knows it is a source of gaining that energy should he need it.
    • Because of Alyosha's shadow magic, when Diarmuid uses his fire ring, the fire summoned will be shadow tinted instead of normal.
    • Unspecified bleed over from the sigil magic that is so tightly tied to her.

POST TIMESKIP:

  • No longer introduces himself as 'Lancer.' Instead, he uses his real name.
  • Diarmuid's fighting style shifts to something reminiscent of Capoeira. His right leg is used as much as possible in place of his missing right arm, and as a result of that, his right leg now is lightly armored from knee to foot with armor that is much like that which was once on his left arm. His boot has also been modified with a hidden blade. The blade can be released with a certain tap of his foot giving him a second weapon should he need it.

SUMMARY OF KNOWN DETAILS

If Diarmuid was confused going into the battle, he is even more so coming out of it. Both castles lie in ruins, untold numbers are dead on all sides, and who knows how many worlds went with them? What good came of all of it? None. None that Diarmuid can see. As a result, he is pushed even more toward favoring the neutral side. Deep down, he no longer fully considers himself Seelie. The golden cloak that marks him as a knight of the Golden Cadre is not a badge of honor, but a reminder that even knights can take the wrong path. After he recovers from losing his right arm and spends some time learning to fight again, he will focus on strengthening his bonds with his family and friends. It doesn't matter what side they are on for he does not see them as Seelie or Unseelie. They are family. They are friend. That is all that matters. When not helping Alyosha, his new Master, and fighting the Neutral fight, he will also spend time training others, building his personal training ground at Caer Glaem, and...breeding bandersnatches? Well, at least trying. Who knows if the bandersnatches will cooperate...

Of course, all of that will be put to the side when it comes time to spoil babbins and mercenar-- Err, wait, that should be spoiling babbins and LEADING mercenaries. That's better...

PLANS

  • Recover from his injuries both physically and mentally.
  • Adjust to his new Master/Servant bond with Alyosha and the bleed over.
  • Learn to fight again. (Looking into a new arm will come later.)
  • Work on getting the personal training ground he has been granted built to his specifications.
  • Meet with Lancelot to discuss worries etc about Tarz's tactics.
  • Keep in contact with his Unseelie friends. Find ways to meet with them despite the crack down on cross court interaction.
  • Spend more time with Grainne.
  • Teach fighting and shard training as requested.
  • Tag team fighting with his new Master so they can learn to be badasses together. :-D
  • Do whatever he can to help the Neutral side.
  • Go hunting for new bandersnatch friends with Alice.

after the hunt!

Faster, faster, just a little faster...

Ah, but he's really out of shape on this front. Lily pants and heaves and he must slow the poor mare to prevent her collapse from exhaustion; he knows by now he must've lost, having tracked the Hart nearly to its lair only to fall behind at the last second. A thrilling hunt, nonetheless, and when he stumbles upon the man who must've been the one to slay him, he smiles.

"Diarmuid."

Nothing like vengeance or envy enters his heart. If anyone were to best him, best that it was Lancer, Diarmuid Ua Duibhne. Best that it was the one who wanted more than anything to win. And Gilgamesh can empathize with those words: I want it more than anything.

"Congratulations," the King acknowledges with a bow of his head, dismounting. "You were a worthy opponent. Shall we rest a while, then?"

It is a testament to how much he's come to trust Diarmuid that he'd admit to weakness. But he is tired. To rest a while, and to rest together, would surely not be such a bad thing.

Gilgamesh lets the heavier armor fade away into casual clothing, and so sits beside Diarmuid with his back to the trunk. His endless taste for wine quite possibly being the worst kept secret of all time, his eyes light up seeing the bottle. How thoughtful of him, and just another reminder that this Servant really was prepared for everything as far as decorum went. Five stars once again.

"No need to ask," Gilgamesh assents, relaxing with one leg drawn to his chest and the other splayed outward. Like a child, almost. "Under the condition you recount every perilous moment 'til the end. That was my rightful kill, you know."

But he doesn't sound too pressed about it. Just playfully put out, and that's much better than the alternative.

[personal profile] babbylon 2015-04-08 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"I caught but a glimpse," Gilgamesh explains, "just the sight of his mane, long and flowing as though he were the wind itself. Almost blindingly white, lawful and gracious and just. A truly noble beast you did fell this day, indeed, and I envy you for it."

Just not enough to rain down death and destruction upon his head in a fit of rage. Throwing back the bottle, he takes a long chug of it before collapsing back with a contented sigh. He's tired, alright, but he'll recover. They were Servants. They were meant for this sort of challenge, this sort of exertion.

Quietly, he nudges his fingers beside Diarmuid's and brushes them together.

"Whatever I ask, hm? But didn't the Hart already grant your dearest wish?" Either Gilgamesh knows of his prayer before the battle, or it's just a remarkably sure guess. "That should be enough for now, that my subject bathed in this victory."

"I didn't give you any of that, Diarmuid. You gave it to yourself."

A fact Gilgamesh would stubbornly insist upon. But he won't turn away his hand, happy to have it, happy to hold it. Happy for a quieter moment like this one, because even Gilgamesh tires of yelling at times. At times, even Gilgamesh craves the softness of a touch that won't turn him away.

He shuts his eyes and thinks they must make for a lovely image. If he imagines for long enough, it's someone else holding his hand—someone smaller and paler with laughter to light up the world.

"I suppose I don't really know," he confesses, shaking out the long braid that's now grown over his shoulder. "But maybe... it might be nice to continue on just as we are. To keep hunting. To keep chasing. Anything and anyone we'd like. That's what it means to be free, to be an adventurer."

Yes, that's what he wants. He turns to look at Diarmuid too, "Let's keep adventuring together until then. Until it's my year, just run alongside me."

Sometimes Gilgamesh forgets this man was his enemy another world away. They never got the chance to fight, and he only learned secondhand of his wretched fate, but what would that have been like? What sort of battle would they have waged against each other, what kind of honorable blows could he strike against the wicked King of Heroes who let his people die? Speed was one thing, technique another, but...

You would've died no matter what, Diarmuid Ua Duibhne. It was not a war to be won by honorable men. He would've suffered and he would've died and sometimes Gilgamesh forgets this man was still alive here, miraculously, against his own expectations. Against all odds, his wish came true.

Gilgamesh mouths his lips over Diarmuid's hair, across his scalp, and squeezes around his hand. They are not the actions of one who will ever love him, but they are those of a lover. In his own way, Gilgamesh has accepted him. It is enough for both of them.

"This should not have been my fate," he admits in that quiet moment, "but the truth being what it is, such a fate is best not endured alone. I would ask of you that. I would tell you, I do not want to be alone. I would tell you, speak of it to no one else. It is a shameful thing to say."

"Idiot."

Gilgamesh chides Diarmuid with barely any fire left in him, drawing that hand to his face. They truly are foolish words, and they truly are a pair of fools, the two of them. They were prouder than this. They were better than this, or at least Gilgamesh once thought so. Now, after facing this world, after facing the other Saber and the other Lancer, he isn't so sure.

He entered this new year with the highest of hopes, maintained the highest of spirits, but this talk depresses him. It depresses him because it brings reality crashing back down—that they'll both never be as they once were, no matter how brightly they shined, apart or together.

"This was supposed to be your day," Gilgamesh reminds him, in a rare moment of selflessness, "the one day where I, Gilgamesh, King of Heroes, permitted you to stand above me. Don't ruin the mood with such somber eyes. It reflects poor on you, as well, and I won't allow it."

She won't even look at me, she won't even acknowledge me—

"I won't, you know. So consider it an order from me."

I don't want to let go—

"Let go of all that sadness. Together. With me."

...do I really have to let go, Lancer?

[personal profile] babbylon 2015-04-10 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
"...you're pretty embarrassing."

A tall order coming from Gilgamesh, but it's been a very, very long time since anyone spoke to him in such a way. Alliances were brief and trysts were just that, yet there's a lasting honesty in that gaze. It's hard to ignore and, as much as he should tear himself away and mumble and grumble about poor choices in companions, he doesn't. He just blinks slowly, once, twice, and heeds what Diarmuid asks of him... somewhat.

"I still have to do something," Gilgamesh winds up hedging. "I have to fix something. Correct a mistake. If I don't, I can't face the true me, who awaits forever within the Throne. It's easy just saying it, right? But I can't forget her face by wishing for it."

Let go. Don't let go. The voices war within his head and Gilgamesh winds up shutting them all out, leaning back with a great sigh.

"No... I still want it. Even if the sadness disappears, I'm bound by that duty. Maybe it was my responsibility all along, for the battle that was interrupted. I need to finish it. And if I can do one thing that is good, and honorable, and just, I'll save her."

It's a hard conclusion to make, yet a relieving one at the same time. He looks relieved. "That's what my battle with Saber means here. I understand it now."

Maybe he would've loved a man like this, once. Maybe, without Enkidu to occupy every errant thought, he would've grown to care for him in the same way. Maybe they would be less subjects, more equals, but as it stands, as they both sit side-by-side with one another, it could only ever be a subject addressing his king.

But Gilgamesh still smiles for it. He won't refuse him, won't reject him. He won't ever really understand, and the same could be said for Gilgamesh himself. What matters are those words bordering on sacred: you are not alone. They are together in this much, in their own separate battles to be waged with Saber.

"I fear there may be no cure for it." Gilgamesh sighs this even as he melts against Diarmuid, takes up that hand upon his chest and brings it to his lips. "I fear I may sink yet further into despair, against my own will, my own nature. But if that day comes, the day when this world falls to me, I will be sure to catch you. I will set you on your feet again and send you back to your proper place."

It is the right and proper thing to do, from one knight to another. Gilgamesh would defeat Saber; Diarmuid would please his lord. In that moment, Gilgamesh decides he would gladly make a world where this was so.

"I don't even know if he's real anymore."

The first confession is also the most truthful. The most regretful words out of his mouth are also the most painful. Even in the dreamless sleep of Servants, Enkidu comes to him. Even in the waking hours, Gilgamesh's thoughts drift to him. He is everything and nothing, all at once. He is everyone and no one at all, banished from this world and from all the rest, too.

It hurts him to consider, but Diarmuid has lulled him and soothed him. The words follow far more easily than they would have otherwise, and only for his ears, only in the sanctified grove of the White Hart himself.

"I don't even know if I imagined him. If he was simply one very long dream I awakened from. Sometimes, I think so. Sometimes, he is too tangible for me to bear. Sometimes, I wonder if I should forget that vow, even if it would bring shame to his name as well as mine. Would it not be for the best?"

Gilgamesh glances over at Diarmuid, worry clear in his eyes. "Would this world not break him, as well? He should not be brought to this wretched realm. He should not see what I've become. He is not like me. He is too pure and full of goodness."

[personal profile] babbylon 2015-04-11 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They are good words, kind words, beautiful words. They should be words for someone else. He's too forgone for them, too cruel for them, too ugly. Gilgamesh turns away even as he relaxes and comes to a quiet realization.

"I will go mad here, I think."

Except it isn't one, really. It's too late for that. It was too late ever since the moment Enkidu fell to the will of the gods; perhaps Diarmuid felt the same as he died beneath their sky, bleeding out for their amusement, cursed to his very last breath. There are warm hands and warm eyes upon him but neither matter much. It's too late for them. It's too late for everything.

Even so, Gilgamesh does look back.

"But before that happens, pull me away from the edge. You will fail, of course. I would kill you long before you succeeded. But if you were to try, that would hearten me. If you were to speak as you are now, even in the midst of despair, even as the world crashed down all around you, I would be most pleased."

Here he smiles, laughs at himself, as there's nothing left to say. "I was a pretty terrible king, after all. That much wasn't just a dream."

[personal profile] babbylon 2015-04-12 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
How dare you, he wants to say, but doesn't, can't. He never had any knights of his own back at Uruk, he never saw what happened when they got so fired up like this. Usually his attendants just fell in line, just bowed their heads and did whatever they were told, yet Diarmuid... it's strange seeing him this way, after being so complacent.

It's strange, but it seems to fit him. And he'd be remiss to scold him when he's doing exactly what he was told in that spring all those months ago. He can't look away from Diarmuid, so he doesn't. A world full of courts. Raise your own. Show them how this world should be. Correct them.

They are all sentiments that resound strongly with him; he feels more preyed upon than ever with words that pierce further than fangs. They renew and inspire, and perhaps he will still go mad, perhaps there is nothing to be done for him, perhaps he will chase Saber fruitlessly to his grave...

But someone called him King, once, and meant it. And believed it. And he believes it, too.

"I really wanted to win, you know. I'm really... really, really mad."

He cracks a grin through it, though, and Diarmuid can rest his easy knowing he has broken through. Gilgamesh won't forget. Even if he loses himself, he'll remember.

"Upon the grace and glory of my crown, Diarmuid, I forgive your transgression in handing down those orders. Just this once."
