MAJOR CHANGES
POST BATTLE:
- His right arm is missing at the shoulder.
- There are several 'bleed over' effects from his Master/Servant bond with Alyosha because various factors. These include:
- When his emotions are high (especially when he is angry) he will grow fangs and the pupils of his eyes will slit like a snake's eyes.
- He will crave blood whenever his energy levels are low or whenever Alyosha is strongly craving it herself. This is partly because of her being a vampire, but also because on his world, blood is one of the things that carries magical energy and so he knows it is a source of gaining that energy should he need it.
- Because of Alyosha's shadow magic, when Diarmuid uses his fire ring, the fire summoned will be shadow tinted instead of normal.
- Unspecified bleed over from the sigil magic that is so tightly tied to her.
POST TIMESKIP:
- No longer introduces himself as 'Lancer.' Instead, he uses his real name.
- Diarmuid's fighting style shifts to something reminiscent of Capoeira. His right leg is used as much as possible in place of his missing right arm, and as a result of that, his right leg now is lightly armored from knee to foot with armor that is much like that which was once on his left arm. His boot has also been modified with a hidden blade. The blade can be released with a certain tap of his foot giving him a second weapon should he need it.

SUMMARY OF KNOWN DETAILS
If Diarmuid was confused going into the battle, he is even more so coming out of it. Both castles lie in ruins, untold numbers are dead on all sides, and who knows how many worlds went with them? What good came of all of it? None. None that Diarmuid can see. As a result, he is pushed even more toward favoring the neutral side. Deep down, he no longer fully considers himself Seelie. The golden cloak that marks him as a knight of the Golden Cadre is not a badge of honor, but a reminder that even knights can take the wrong path. After he recovers from losing his right arm and spends some time learning to fight again, he will focus on strengthening his bonds with his family and friends. It doesn't matter what side they are on for he does not see them as Seelie or Unseelie. They are family. They are friend. That is all that matters. When not helping Alyosha, his new Master, and fighting the Neutral fight, he will also spend time training others, building his personal training ground at Caer Glaem, and...breeding bandersnatches? Well, at least trying. Who knows if the bandersnatches will cooperate...
Of course, all of that will be put to the side when it comes time to spoil babbins and mercenar-- Err, wait, that should be spoiling babbins and LEADING mercenaries. That's better...
PLANS

"I have been very well, thank you. Enjoying the temperatures we've been having." Kaldur navigates through the acstle easily, heading down towards the underground ruins and lake, where he lives. Kaldur has plans and being in a protcted area that would still be able to withstand the (possibly drunken) antics of two individuals with super-strength.
"Though, before I go into more details for my plans for us this evening, I have to ask— How intoxicated, potentially, could you get? I thought it might be interesting to train under some sort of influencing factors. Alcohol seemed the safest." As long as they didn't over-indulge and were careful to stay hydrated, they should be fine, and the effects would wear off as it was metabolized.
no subject
"How intoxicated? To be honest, I am not sure," Diarmuid's curiosity becomes amusement as Kaldur explains his plan. "My body processes the alcohol very quickly. I think at the most so far, I have only gotten tipsy. Of course, I haven't really done a lot of drinking since I took my master and changed. I don't know how that will affect things. Sometimes I think, when it comes to servants, being willing to get drunk has a lot to do with it, but I usually don't want to get drunk so I haven't really tested it." He turns to Kaldur and winks at him, "I guess it's time to test things a little more thoroughly."
no subject
"It also is an area that can withstand a little mayhem, and if we are going to doing feats of strength and skill while questionably sober, I figured it best we do it someplace that won't fall down about out heads." Kaldur is almost tempted to see what drunken shard-power would look like, but perhaps not to start with.
"So, my friend. Let us drink, drink more, and be merry. I have prepared quite the night for us ahead."
no subject
It's hard for him to say that with a straight face because he is already enjoying the thought of this so much. It reminds him of home and the wild nights he often had with the Fianna. Of course, he usually was the one who stayed sober, but there is a first time for everything.
"Also, do I get to guess these plans of your or will you tell me?"
Perhaps once there is more alcohol in their systems and their tongues are looser...
sorry for late! also we can sort of skim over parts if we need to speed along!
"I've banged around at most of the areas down here, so unless you happen to swing particularly hard at a very fragile-looking support bean, the paths should hold." He sets out the cups and starts to pour, waving at Diarmuid to take a seat next to him on the stone-cobbled ground. "Just try not to toss any debris into the lake, if you please, my neighbors won't appreciate it."
"If you wish to guess at my plans you may try, but I have a nice talking game to start us with, first. Tell me, did your 'common-era' information dump include the rules to a game known as 'Never Have I Ever'?"
Save the hitting and smashing for when the real drunk sets in.
/thumbs up
The really 'important' question aside, Diarmuid takes time to ponder the game Kaldur has mentioned, "Never Have I Ever? No, I don't believe I have ever heard of it. Of course, that is not too surprising. The information the Grail gave me is focused mostly on the things I need to succeed in the war and to function in the time frame. Games are not really something that falls into either category."
He shrugs and then nods toward Kaldur, "Instead of me taking time to guess, why don't you tell me how we play this game of yours?"
cackles!
Kaldur hasn't ever tried to drink to get solid drunk before, so he isn't entirely sure on what he needs, either. It will be a learning experience all along. "Never Have I ever is the most loving and unforgiving of get-to-know-you games. On your turn, you make a true statement, such as 'Never have I ever kissed a zebra' or something to that effect. Everyone who has done whatever it is take a drink. By which I mean they down their goblet."
Kaldur goes back behind some of the rocks and drags out a keg with grin that promises mischief.
"Shall we begin?"
no subject
"Now, do I limit myself to what I did during my first life or do I include what I have done here as well?" Diarmuid's eyes are also twinkling with mischief. A lot of people only ever see the perfect knight side of him, but there is more there. A lot more. How much tends to surprise people once it comes out.
Then again, perhaps Kaldur is looking forward to meeting that side of Diarmuid considering that look in his eyes...
"Yes, by all means. Lets begin."
no subject
Kaldur pulls a decorative tap from his pocket. With one careful blow he forces it into the head of the first of the kegs, filling both their goblets before shifting the cask back upright. He offers one goblet to Diarmuid with a grin and lifts his own as if in toast.
"Never have I ever slept with a blond."
Do strawberry blonds count? Because his wife was one...sort of...
Down goes the drink. Once his goblet is empty, Diarmuid twirls it by the stem and then holds it back out to Kaldur for a refill, "One for one. Do I ask next? Or do I wait for your shocked look and pressing questions as to who the lucky blond is?" His grin says that he almost hopes Kaldur will trying and figure it out...
Normally that would be saved for 'redheads', but...
"You ask next, however. We alternate back and forth, though if an interesting enough line of questioning appears it can be pursued when it is my turn again." And the way Diarmuid seems to think it interesting, Kaldur admits he's not one to back down from a challenge, even if 'never have I ever' isn't quite the easiest way to tease out answers a-la twenty questions. He swirls his own glass around, and tips it slightly towards Diarmuid, matching unspoken the challenge.
"How well do you suspect you know me?"
GIlgamesh is definitely a blond though, so.... ;-P
"Hmmm...with your love of water...." Diarmuid taps the rim of his goblet against his lips. He has to phrase this carefully since he has done something like it once.
"Never have I ever had sex underwater..."
In the water, yes, but not underwater.
(I was thinking more the odds that kaldur has done the do with a ginger given his weakness XD)
"A good statement. I do live underwater—I suspect it would be much more strange if I had not." Still 'underwater' is rather specific, given the circumstances. He may have to investigate that further at a later time.
More important, though, is this mysterious blond. Kaldur takes his time, giving Diarmuid a considering look as he tries to run his mind through the blonds of their mutual acquaintance (since, otherwise, Kaldur suspects Dia would be a little less proud of it). Kayneth and Gabranth are out, and Diarmuid certainly hasn't had sex with him. He would have remembered that
fondly. While Flora could possibly pass as a blonde, Kaldur doesn't think she quite qualifies. So, unless it was some sort of Unseelie...
No.
He didn't. He couldn't have.
On the other hand, Kaldur can't say he hasn't ever considered it...
"Never have I ever had sex with a flower-crowned king." He asks, but there almost a hint of hesitance, incredulity.
no subject
"A flower-crowned king, hu? Goodness that is specific. One would almost think you had an exact someone in mind," Diarmuid lifts his glass to drink and then pauses suddenly. "Does it count if he wasn't wearing the crown at the time?" He winks at Kaldur and then downs the glass in one gulp.
And now you know.
Diarmuid rolls the goblet between his fingers as he tries to think of another good statement. He thinks of a couple, but isn't sure how to phrase them in quite the right format. Maybe he will think of a better way later. For now...
"Never have I ever felt rage or hatred."
What kind of man are you, Kaldur?
no subject
He has questions, to be honest, but some of that will have to wait until once that subroutine in his mind stops circling around 'slept with the King of Uruk' in bright neon letters. It isn't often that there are those that can match the age of Atlantis, but Uruk? Uruk comes very close.
With Diarmuid's next question Kaldur stops. On this, he has to dwell, examine himself and his feelings.
Before he had come to this world, before the week that preceded following the fairies into this alternate universe, he would have passed it on without a heartbeat, but now?
He was angry, wounded grave at Tula's death, and Aquaman—his King—'s lack of honesty and trust with him. There are those he has fought in this world that have made him frustrated, and angry.
But, honestly? He is most angry with himself. He is not sure he hates himself, for it is not like him to hold such loathing, even when he is sharply criticizing of his own downfalls, but...
There are many in this world with whom he is angry, and grieved, for how little they understand war and what ignorance they act on (ignorance, he too, has acted on, early in his stay here). But hate? Or the poisonous rage that is alike it? In the end, he sets his cup aside, and rests his hands upon his knees.
He does not hate the villains of his homeworld for Tula's death or for the deaths of others on the team that he could not save. Nor does he hate his opponent's here, only mourns the necessity, and how little they all know, as they act.
"I have not, but here– here I have found myself the closest to falling into such a pitfall as I have ever been."
A serious question should be matched with a serious question.
"Never have I ever regretted the choice I made, in becoming a hero."
It has been hard and painful, but regret this–who he is now, over the life of a soldier, over further study in his sorcerous talents? No, he does not.
no subject
Diarmuid pauses a moment, and then tilts his glass at Kaldur, "Don't tell him I said that. He will be upset that I have spoken to another about his troubles. I see you want to ask me questions about the two of us. Maybe we should change the game for a bit?"
He knows that Gilgamesh has talked to others about him. Why shouldn't he talk to others about his king? After all, he is proud of their relations and the fact he seems to be reigning the golden king in, even if just a little.
"This place has driven me as close to hatred and rage as I have ever come too. Do not feel bad you have been so tested. Just be glad that you have resisted so far," Diarmuid is honestly glad that Kaldur does not drink to this statement, though it is obvious he had to think for a while. Kaldur's statement to him draws Diarmuid into the same kind of contemplation.
Does he regret? Even though Kaldur specifically mentions being a hero, Diarmuid can't help but think back to all the things he could possibly feel regret over. A hero's life is full of hard choices, though he can say during his first life at least, he regrets none of them. Does he wish some things had gone differently? Of course. He would not have been called into the war if he did not wish that, but regret his choices he does not. He does not like that his death brought so much hardship to Grainne and the children. He does not like that his death caused Oscar to threaten his own lord and grandfather. However, had he not gone to fight the boar, others would have died. The people he was suppose to be protecting. Maybe even children. It was a fight he had to face. And Fionn...well, after Fionn let him die, it showed to everyone what kind of man he really was. No more hiding behind false words and fake smiles.
Diarmuid spent too short of a time in the war on his world to really regret anything, but here in the Drabwurld can he say that is the same? He has done much and been disappointed by many things, but does he regret? The thing he comes the closest to regretting would probably be how things went between himself and Grainne...and that he tries not to think too much about. It is painful to remember. Their fights. The anger and disappointment on her face. The hurt her words often caused him, unbeknownst to her...
But did he regret that time? It was good to see her again. To hold her and soothe her pain. He wishes he could have done more, but he has changed. He knows that now. He is not the same man who she was torn away from.
Perhaps, like so much, them parting like they did was Fate. And as such, he cannot regret it.
He takes a deep breath and finally sets his goblet to the side.
"No, I do not regret. Not back then and not now."
no subject
"That he can lean on you is a blessing, and a trust well-placed." There is a certainty in Kaldur's words as he speaks them. Even if Dia must work to avoid doubt of his own worth, Kaldur has never held such doubts to it. There's half a moment as his lips quirk up in a wry smile, before returning to something more neutral. "Would that I had such an ally to lean on when I lead my Team."
Kaldur laughs, after. "But you will have to forgive my surprise. Uruk would be near of an age as Atlantis, and there is little as old as my home, that King Gilgamesh even walks among us still sets me at awe, even having met him, and knowing of the Heroic Spirits of your world." The legendary status just seems more... real... with Gilgamesh than some of the other 'legends' he has met.
Kaldur drinks anyways, sipping quietly.
"Perhaps we should change the nature of our game, simply asking questions and enjoying our refreshments. Seeking truths instead, to better learn one another–" the flash of a smirk"–or to simply satisfy our own curiosity."
He leans back, settling against the keg.
"As for satisfying curiosity, what would you consider the most scandalous place the two of you have been 'engaged' in."
no subject
And it says something to how well Diarmuid did leading the Fianna that so many of them chose to side with him when he ran away with Grainne...
"I think part of what makes it so much harder for him is that his powers have been limited as well. He is not a man used to limitations at all. That is just adding insult to injury," Diarmuid gives him a curious look. "Why were you so alone? Did you not get along well with your team?"
Diarmuid pauses to pick his goblet back up, "I understand. Even as a hero, I feel awe toward other heroic spirits I meet. Some of them feel like they are such a different level from me. Gilgamesh and Cu Chulainn for example."
"I would like that change very much, honestly. I had several things I wanted to ask you, but I didn't know how to ask them in line with the rules of the game," he laughs and then his face colors slightly. "We have just started really. I suppose the most scandalous place at the moment was during Samhain. We had sex near the tents. We weren't quiet about it either. I rode him hard right out in the open where anyone could see us. Not that scandalous, though. Ask me again in a few months. I will probably have a better answer for you."
He raises his glass and then drains it, "What about you? What is the most scandalous place you have 'celebrated' in?"
no subject
"But we were children. It was created as a team for us, by us, as children. Many of them are still children, now, though most of us who founded the team have remained with it."
He thinks back, back to the training gone horribly wrong, how M'gann had wrested control of that dream and they all had to live with the scars later.
"When we started— we did not have a clear leader. More a confederation of friends, united by cause. But you cannot fight battles united without someone to take command, read the field, and lead, that each individual does not, by accident, inhibit his friends. In one of our first missions... I was elected that leader." He did not want it, then, has not ever wanted it since. The greatest thing of that terrible, awful week before he came to this world was he could finally step down.
"I had made it clear that I was only the interim leader, until the one who should have lead that team. Who will be leading that team, when I returned, was old enough. He was thirteen. In my country, my kingdom, that is old enough to enter the army, to be considered adult. But not in his, and for all his wisdom and strategy and cunning, Robin was not an adult. Not then."
I am not fit for command and must resign as team leader.
Who do you recommend to take your place?
Artemis is too raw and untrusting. Kid Flash too rash and impulsive. Miss Martian remains too eager to please. Superboy carries too much anger.
Making Robin the logical choice.
But he is so young.
Kaldur, you're all young.
I cannot shift this burden to him. Not yet. It appears I must withdraw my resignation.
"They all— there were reasons, they could not carry that burden, and to lean on one of them, I would have needed to lean on them all. And it was me, that they would turn to for guidance. I was the one who must remain steady, and strong." And he would. He would stand strong, and remain steady, and damn himself if it meant that they could take the strength form him to stand on their own, and be the incredible individuals that they were, that they were meant to be. If that meant he was trapped within a wall of his own making, just trying to breathe with the waves over his head and the water stagnant-still around him with no air, so be it.
But those are thoughts and pains that he should not dwell on. For the first time, here... he thinks that he might have those he could turn to, if he must fall apart. Maybe.
"Other heroes are often filled with awe, even when you know them when they are at rest. And when they are legends even to you? That awe is only greater." Kaldur smirks, half a moment. "Even when you have seen them half-awake, in pink bunny slippers and pajamas."
Kaldur fills his goblet again, and is grateful that he had not quite raised it to his lips when Diarmuid answers. Definitely would have been a spit-take, there, and as it his he sputters back laughter. "—What!?" That grin turns all ribbing humor. "Why Dia, I would have never thought it in you."
Once he manages to get his amusement to a more manageable level, he drinks again, and thinks. "I am not sure I have ever been so... scandalous. All of my liaisons had to be discreet, and well ordered. I am afraid, I am rather boring, in that respect." He pauses a minute, before giving Diarmuid a grin. "Positions, however— water allows for much more flexibility in movement and support than air, especially for those born to it."
He taps his goblet against his chin, pondering. "If you could have a skill or power not granted to you before, what would it be? And what skill or power would you trade for it?"
no subject
"I was young when I earned the right to lead the Fianna when Fionn was not able to. Not so young as you, but still fairly young. Of course, I also started training when I was six years old. Age is just a number sometimes. Experience and knowledge are really what count. You should not let yourself get so hung up on a number. Yes, everyone should have a chance to be a child, but it sounds like everyone one your team was also ready to step into being an adult no matter what their age was. It also sounds like you all knew this life from a young age and that really makes things different when it comes to being ready or not being ready."
He pauses to take a drink from his goblet before continuing, "The thing is, leaders are important. You recognize that and a team can only be as strong as the one who leads them. Many leaders take that to mean--like you did--that they can't let their teammates know when they are troubled or tired, but that is wrong. Your team is your family and they deserve the chance to left you up and support you just as much as you do the same for them. To not allow them to do that is an insult to them, just as it would be an insult for a king to prevent their knights from fighting to protect him. A leader is not meant to shelter their team. They are meant to guide, to protect, and to help them learn. Do you see the difference?"
Before shifting topics, Diarmuid drains his glass, giving his words a minute to sink in. Then, it is time to focus on the more fun topic, "You are right. If seeing Gilgamesh naked covered in blood and...other things...doesn't make me lose my awe, I guess nothing well." Looks like someone might be starting to feel just a touch tipsy considering how open and blunt he is being.
"I am not usually like that, so you have every right to be surprised, but during Samhain, it felt right to let that more...animalistic side of me out," he shrugs. "I don't regret it at all, though, and I think in exchange for not having any fun places to tell me about, you need to tell me about some of those positions."
Showing might not be out of the question either...
"A power I would want that was not granted to me? I honestly have two and I am not sure which I would want more. Magic or the ability to fly..." his expression becomes distant for a moment. "I always wanted both when I was young and I still do really. I am not sure what I would trade for them, though. Back then, I didn't have any extra powers I could trade. Now...most of my abilities are enhancements to my previous skills. Do those count? If so, perhaps I would trade my strength or endurance."
no subject
But such things cannot be changed, and while they have made his life difficult, they have also made him strong—in spirit and in body. He is different some them, and sometimes, a leader must lead, and accept the responsibility of those choices. He does not lay blame at their feet.
When Dia brings the conversation back to positioning, however, Kaldur laughs. "If I can find the time, I can help instruct you on how such things are done."
As for powers— "You might want to hold onto that endurance, if you decide to fly. You might be surprised the energy that such an activity would require. As for magic... you can learn here, now. The opportunity is available. Just because it was not an affinity of yours at home, does not make you incabable now. There are many here who have learned magic for the first, thanks to the way this land changes us."
Kaldur finishes the last of his goblet, standing and stretching.
"Up for some excerise to start burning off the ethanol?"
no subject
"What is this if you can find time?" A smirk crosses Diarmuid's face as he puts aside his goblet and also stands, "And just who has been telling me over and over I need to make more time for fun? Sounds like you need to take your own advice."
How amusing that is coming from Diarmuid since he is terrible at taking his own advice.
"But you are probably right about the endurance. If I have no ability to last, then I am not going to get anywhere. I would say perhaps I could trade some of my luck, but that is already bad enough. The last thing I want to do is make it any worse. Less for myself and more for those around me..."
After all, if a person already has bad luck, how exactly do you make it worse? Does it become a bad luck field affecting everyone nearby?
"Yes, we should get started since I don't know how long this will keep me hazy for. What would you like to try first?"
