MAJOR CHANGES
POST BATTLE:
- His right arm is missing at the shoulder.
- There are several 'bleed over' effects from his Master/Servant bond with Alyosha because various factors. These include:
- When his emotions are high (especially when he is angry) he will grow fangs and the pupils of his eyes will slit like a snake's eyes.
- He will crave blood whenever his energy levels are low or whenever Alyosha is strongly craving it herself. This is partly because of her being a vampire, but also because on his world, blood is one of the things that carries magical energy and so he knows it is a source of gaining that energy should he need it.
- Because of Alyosha's shadow magic, when Diarmuid uses his fire ring, the fire summoned will be shadow tinted instead of normal.
- Unspecified bleed over from the sigil magic that is so tightly tied to her.
POST TIMESKIP:
- No longer introduces himself as 'Lancer.' Instead, he uses his real name.
- Diarmuid's fighting style shifts to something reminiscent of Capoeira. His right leg is used as much as possible in place of his missing right arm, and as a result of that, his right leg now is lightly armored from knee to foot with armor that is much like that which was once on his left arm. His boot has also been modified with a hidden blade. The blade can be released with a certain tap of his foot giving him a second weapon should he need it.

SUMMARY OF KNOWN DETAILS
If Diarmuid was confused going into the battle, he is even more so coming out of it. Both castles lie in ruins, untold numbers are dead on all sides, and who knows how many worlds went with them? What good came of all of it? None. None that Diarmuid can see. As a result, he is pushed even more toward favoring the neutral side. Deep down, he no longer fully considers himself Seelie. The golden cloak that marks him as a knight of the Golden Cadre is not a badge of honor, but a reminder that even knights can take the wrong path. After he recovers from losing his right arm and spends some time learning to fight again, he will focus on strengthening his bonds with his family and friends. It doesn't matter what side they are on for he does not see them as Seelie or Unseelie. They are family. They are friend. That is all that matters. When not helping Alyosha, his new Master, and fighting the Neutral fight, he will also spend time training others, building his personal training ground at Caer Glaem, and...breeding bandersnatches? Well, at least trying. Who knows if the bandersnatches will cooperate...
Of course, all of that will be put to the side when it comes time to spoil babbins and mercenar-- Err, wait, that should be spoiling babbins and LEADING mercenaries. That's better...
PLANS
- Recover from his injuries both physically and mentally.
- Adjust to his new Master/Servant bond with Alyosha and the bleed over.
- Learn to fight again. (Looking into a new arm will come later.)
- Work on getting the personal training ground he has been granted built to his specifications.

- Tag team fighting with his new Master so they can learn to be badasses together. :-D
- Do whatever he can to help the Neutral side.
- Go hunting for new bandersnatch friends with Alice.

Yes, there's purpose in their companionship. It won't replace what he's lost but it fills some other void, just a little. The pain from the bite fades. His heart calms. Diarmuid succeeds, as always, in providing that stability he so relies upon to stay functional.]
Idiot.
[No answer for now, so a surprise it shall be. Gilgamesh reaches up to a few dangling strands of hair, running fingers through and skirting his cheek with his thumb.]
It's getting longer... you should braid it, like mine. As a symbol of your devotion to me.
[Despite his grousing, Gilgamesh doesn't much care who sees, either. He's nudging their faces together like a pet eager for attention.]
no subject
Diarmuid returns the nudges with some of his own, a kiss finding its way to the top of the golden king's nose.]
I've thought of braiding it. Braiding a section of our hair or adding beads to a section is often done as a mark of honor or a sign of a battle well fought. I would very much like to have a braid to show my devotion to you.
[He sits back slightly, reaching back with his hand to sort out one of the longer sections of his hair. After that, he holds the section out in the palm of his hand.]
Will you braid it for me? It will mean a lot more that way.
no subject
His hands are deft in weaving the strands together. He had to tame that wild garden Enkidu called hair, after all. This is simple in comparison.]
What a pointless request, all the way out here. I'm only showing you so you can do it yourself, alright?
[That's why he's reaching for Diarmuid's hand, settling it atop his own to learn the motions that way, by touch. But it's also an easy excuse to hold it.]
Do it a thousand times, and then I'll forgive you. Maybe.
no subject
[Still, even though Diarmuid knows well how to braid, he doesn't fight when Gilgamesh takes his hand to 'show' him how to do it. It is a moment of closeness between them where neither has to say anything to show how they feel. The actions speak for themselves.]
I will practice until I can do it perfectly myself. Perhaps, I can practice on your hair? It has gotten so long an beautiful...
[Really, he just wants an excuse to play with Gilgamesh's hair, but he won't say that out loud. Said in that way, the request would likely be denied straight away, but perhaps like this...]
Though, if you would rather not, perhaps Merida will let me practice with her hair. Oh...speaking of her...
[Diarmuid leans forward to press a kill to the golden king's lips.]
Thank you, for helping her.
no subject
Gilgamesh's hand falls away and his eyes drift.]
You were going to cry out.
[Really, he just doesn't want to hear those words from him again. He hasn't done anything worth thanking. He hasn't helped anyone here. All these chance meetings, all these odd adventures... they'd been mostly by accident, hadn't they? He's still convinced he'll wake up from them someday.
He'll wake up, and when he does, Diarmuid will be dead, he will have fallen into the Grail, and Saber will remain forever beyond his reach.
Fingers ghost across the spot where he's been kissed, and he goes on, quietly:]
It would've been such an ugly sound, with Ea tearing through you, and I didn't want to hear it. So I stopped. That was why.
[It would've ruined the image of his beautiful Lancer. To tarnish that beauty would be a terrible crime.]
no subject
[Diarmuid almost says 'thank you' again, but stops himself. Saying it once has already brought the sadness back into the air--a sadness he did not expect or want. He doesn't want to make things worse. Understanding, that is better anyway. Again, the things they cannot or will not say hover around them communicating themselves in other ways. Like by touch, for example. Eager to bring a smile back to his beloved king's lips, Diarmuid reaches down for one of his hands and brings it to his lips, pressing a kiss against it.]
We are so near the hot springs that it will be a shame if we do not return. What do you say? Shall we end this day by basking in the warmth of the springs and the memories we have there?
[Maybe they can even make some new memories while they are there. It would be so much better than lingering in this sad place full of uneasiness.]
no subject
It's slow and sultry and stubborn, as to be expected from the King of Heroes. It's desperate and needy and speaks to exactly what he wants—don't leave, don't let go, I don't want to die—and exactly what he doesn't want to reveal. That he was scared, just a little, just enough that he refused to acknowledge it.
It meant acknowledging a sort of madness even he wasn't ready to embrace.]
Okay. [He concedes. How could he ever not with this man?] But I don't feel like moving. Convince me.
[He likes kissing this man too much. It's a habit. Or an addiction.]
no subject
It's not the same as suddenly and violently being dragged into death unexpected.
Still, Diarmuid does his best to understand. At least, until he is distracted from it completely by that kiss. The unspoken message comes across loud and clear. To show he understands what has been left unsaid, Diarmuid wraps himself around the golden king with lips, arm, aura, everything that he can to get across the message that he is here, he is not going anywhere, and that he is going to do his very best make sure Death stays as far away from Gilgamesh as possible. Fear is okay. Fear is understood. Fear is accepted.
It will be mentioned no more.]
Convince you, hmm...?
[Diarmuid pulls back just far enough to whisper the words against Gilgamesh's lips.]
I think I can do that...but I must ask first....
[He smiles then, letting his fangs show for a moment.]
Are you still okay with being bitten?
I guess we just can't help ourselves huh... cw: blood
And then he confesses quietly:]
It may be best if I forget for a while.
[There's nothing quite like forgetting through bloodletting. Permission extended and approval granted. He holds tighter to this man, this Servant, his Knight.]
It may be best if I see no one else but you in my vision, Diarmuid. At least for a while.
[He doesn't want to die. They have so much more left to do, so much more left to accomplish, to claw and to fight for. They must make this journey together.]
LOL! What can I say? It's the first thing that crossed Diarmuid's mind...
Let me be your refugee. Fall into me and forget. I will catch you when the time is right.
[Diarmuid presses a kiss to the top of Gilgamesh's head and then gently coaxes the golden king's head up. For a moment, he meets blood red eyes, before dropping his head to a spot on Gilgamesh's neck that isn't affected by the Black Shuck's bite. A soft kiss is pressed to the spot and then Diarmuid slides his fangs in so gently that there is no really way of knowing he has bitten until the bond of blood snaps to life between them.
The bond is...different than before now. If Diarmuid's self had been open during that first time at the hot springs, it is downright welcoming now. It calls for Gilgamesh. It beckons him.]
Come to me. It is safe here. Explore to your heart's desire...
[They are words Diarmuid repeats along the bond to make it perfectly clear he knows exactly what he is offering. Any secret Gilgamesh wants to find, he can find now. Any memory he wishes to view, is there for his viewing.
Explore.]
no subject
Diarmuid offers him a great deal and there's a great deal of damage he could cause. He could pull out the image he doesn't know of yet, of himself swearing off the world and cursing Saber to an early grave. He could seek out his first death, betrayed and gored. He could show him Grainne and ask for more, more of that painful reminder of a wife he never even wanted.
Instead, Gilgamesh asks for just one thing.
Show me your happiest memory.
The one that filled him with joy. The one that made him wish for home. The one he wanted more than anything. Diarmuid has been kind to Gilgamesh, and finally, finally the lesson has been instilled in this stubborn Spirit—he repays that kindness in turn without an ounce of selfishness in his heart.
I want to see you smiling. I want to see you free.]

A small boy runs happily down a bright and well-decorated hallway. His giggles make it clear that whatever reason he is being chased for, it is not a bad one. Instead, it is a game. In the doorway to a room, he pauses to look back over his shoulder and then ducks in. Once inside, he hops up and down a few times until he manages to pull a light blue cloak free from the table is has been left on. Boy and cloak then make their way to the bed on the far side of the room. It takes several more hops for the boy to pull himself up onto the bed, but eventually he makes it, pausing to peek at the door. When he sees no one there, the cloak goes over his head...
Then, suddenly, neither boy or cloak are visible on the bed. Where did they go? A soft giggle make sit clear the boy is still in the room, but he cannot be seen at all...
Not long after the boy vanishes, a tall blond man with long hair comes into the room. There is a knowing look on his face like he realizes exactly where a certain little boy might be, but instead of going right to where he is hiding, the man begins to search the room. Even when a muffled giggle sounds in the silence, he doesn't go straight to it. Eventually, though, his search leads him to the bed and he grins down at it...
...before suddenly reaching down and gathering the boy into his arms. The boy bursts out laughing and only starts laughing harder when the man starts spinning him around. As he is spun around, the boy cries out in an excited voice over and over:
"I'm flying! I'm flying!"
The memory fades out at that point, but right on its heels a second one starts...]
no subject
The man he's with is just as lovely to behold. Gilgamesh has seen gods before, and this must surely be one, too. No wonder they were so drawn together. No wonder Diarmuid bows to him so naturally and seeks approval. It's the life he's always known. Gilgamesh can do nothing but rule, and Diarmuid can do nothing but serve.
"I'm flying! I'm flying!" the words echo, and Gilgamesh wonders between them where did he go? Did he fly too far, too high, too fast?
Ultimately, he can only hold to Diarmuid all the tighter and await more. Diarmuid told him to explore, so he does, freely, without concern.]
no subject
Ah, but that is not a happy memory and the focus now is happy memories. Perhaps some other time there can be talk of the less happy ones.
When the next memory starts, Diarmuid is much older. He is walking toward another man, younger than him by a few years, with wild red-blond hair. As he approaches, he holds up a small box he found on his bed.
"Aren't we a little old for mysterious presents, Oscar?"
"Don't think we ever outgrow giving gifts, my dear hawk. 'Sides," Oscar steps forward from where he has been leaning against a tree, 'you earned this one. A long time ago, actually, but it took me a while to find the right one."
Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at Oscar, but instead of asking more, he just opens the box. Inside is something that makes his breath catch in his throat. It's a torc that has a bird's head on each end.
"Do you know how hard it is to find one of those with birds on it instead of a wolf or boar? But, it had to be a bird for you. Nothing else would work, you know?" Oscar is smiling, though his voice has just a tinge of annoyance to it. It is obvious he didn't mind the search at all.
"Oscar..." Diarmuid finds it hard to put together to tell his friend just how much this means to him. In the end, he pulls the torc out of the box and holds it out. "Help me put it on?"
"Of course," Oscar steps over and takes the torc. Once put on, torcs are not meant to ever be taken off, which is way it is so hard to put them on. However, Oscar slips it onto Diarmuid's neck with very little trouble. It's a sign of how well it was made, of how much effort Oscar went to in order to make sure it was the perfect torc for his mentor, his friend and his partner.
When Oscar starts to step away, Diarmuid reaches out and wraps his arms around the other man's waist, stopping him from going too far, "Thank you, for doing this for me."
Oscar laughs, leaning back in toward Diarmuid, "You are never going to get used to people doing things for you, are you?" However, before Diarmuid can respond, Oscar pulls him into a kiss, one that Diarmuid returns. As the kiss continues, Oscar steps back, eventually pulling them both down so they are sitting at the base of the tree with Diarmuid straddling his lap. Once the kiss ends, Diarmuid laughs and rests his head against Oscar's shoulder. They stay that way for a long time. Neither of them speaking. Instead, they just enjoy the feeling of being with someone who is part of them. Someone who they trust to fight at their back and die next to if it ever came to that.
Someone, who is the other half of their soul.]
no subject
I'm glad I met you. It's the first thing Gilgamesh can think of. It's all that feels appropriate to say, until he sees more, sees the gift and very nearly feels the kiss as if it graced his own lips. They are such beautiful creatures, these men, build solid and fierce to fight the world. But they do not fight each other here. This is love, this is brotherly affection. Gilgamesh longs for it once again.
He cannot bring himself to show Diarmuid Enkidu, however. He will crack. He will fall apart. He will break. He addresses Diarmuid thus, over their bond:
He's right, you know. I could put flowers in your hair and you'd shy away from them.
I could give you all the gold within my treasury and you'd turn your nose.
I could chase you forever and you'd still keep running. Why?
To fly is to be free. Will you not spread your wings for me?
I didn't kill you, so that means you should live.
More than anyone, Diarmuid, you should live. You must never fade away.
You should shine brilliantly alongside me. You should never leave.
You must never say those words again, "I'm not good enough."
By order of the King, bear only the greatest love for yourself.
I'm selfish, so I'll ask you to smile that way for me, too.
It's my order, so you can't deny it. I won't let you.
No matter what this world will deny me...]
I won't let you leave.
[It's breathed both from his mouth and into another's mind. The selfish King claims his prize. He will never stray from that happiness again.]
no subject
As his mind starts to clear, a smile pulls on the corner of his mouth, or at least as much as it can considering his mouth's current activities.
I am glad we met too.
He was always right. Just like you.
I was the only one who saw him smile like that. Everyone else...
Suddenly, sadness and something very near regret dart across the bond.
They thought him heartless and cruel. A man only meant for war. A man meant to live and die in battle and do nothing else.
It was how he was expected to be. It was not him at all. Only I knew the real him. Only I...
I don't mean to turn away. But things...are not so important to me. Other people's happiness. That is what I wish for.
His happiness. Your happiness is what I wish for.
I will stay if you want me. Forever. I won't ever leave.
Be happy for me. And I will always have that smile for you.
Always.]
no subject
In the end, he's every bit a child as that tiny Lancer-in-training. He only wears an older face and plays at older wisdom. In the end, he only ever wants to be called King. It's reflected in thoughts that are gently chiding instead of sharply rebuking.
Of course you're glad. And of course I'm right.
We're Servants, and I'm King above you all, so that's just how it is.
There's nothing wrong with living on your own terms.
Don't wish for me. Wish upon your own star. I told you that already.
I won't be happy until then.
I swear I won't smile at all.
His hands shifts up, into Diarmuid's hair, and the eyes that open to look at him are encouraging and exhausted all at once.
If you're tired, then that's fine.
Just rest for a while on me. Until then...
It's okay to smile for yourself, Diarmuid.]
no subject
While is it frustrating that Gilgamesh is being so stubborn about some things, Diarmuid is also thankful that he is. It is yet another thing that reminds him of Oscar and that just makes him feel all the more comfortable with the golden king, all the more at home.
He is about to say more when the hands in his hair make him turn his head just enough to see how tired Gilgamesh is. It reminds Diarmuid that while he has been drinking slowly, he has also been doing it for a while now. It is time to stop...
Of course, that is not the real reason that Gilgamesh looks so tired, but it is a good enough excuse for now.
Once Diarmuid has pulled away, he lifts his head and the rests his forehead against the golden king's so he can look him in the eyes.]
Lets both rest on each other. I think we need it and I will rest better knowing you rest as well.
[Once Diarmuid finishes speaking, a smile much like that he had worn in the memories crosses his face. It is a gift for the king who has given him so much.]
no subject
Diarmuid's smiling. He wonders why. He doesn't ask. He wants to believe it's for them both.]
Just for a while, understand? We have to go back.
[Quietly, for his ears alone:]
So I can lie in bed all day with you. Then I can truly rest.
